Stock exchanges in Europe opened mostly lower on Friday as investors digested the latest earnings reports, with Standard Charted, Sanofi, Eni, NatWest, and AstraZeneca posting their second-quarter financial results for fiscal 2023.
European Commission will release its report on consumer confidence in the region later today, while Germany will unveil its latest readings for gross domestic product (GDP) and consumer price index (CPI). Spain and France reported their annual inflation rates earlier, while Swiss retail sales increased moderately.
Frankfurt's DAX fell 0.29% as Continental AG dipped 1.96%. The Euro Stoxx 50 declined 0.22% as Sanofi SA tumbled 3.12%. The CAC 40 lost 0.21% as Capgemini SE plunged 8.05%. Meanwhile, London's FTSE 100 rose 0.49% with Standard Chartered rising 4.85%.
At 9:01 am CET, the euro and the pound stood flat against the greenback, selling at 1.09766 and 1.27956 respectively.
