Major stock markets in Europe closed Monday's session in the red territory. During the day, investors received the latest comments from the European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde.
During her speech, President Lagarde stated that the Eurozone is "not done with inflation" and that the institution still has "things to do" to fight it, confirming further interest rates shortly after. In other news, the euro reached a five-month high today compared to the dollar, trading above $1.049.
At the close, the DAX lost 158 points or 1.09%, with Brenntag AG down by 8.71%. The CAC 40 fell by 0.70%, while Airbus Group decreased by 5.68%, and the FTSE 100 declined by 0.17%, as Admiral Group dropped by 4.09%.
At 5:28 pm CET, the euro and the British pound were down by 0.24% and 0.59%, selling for $1.03841 and $1.20259, respectively.
