European markets opened lower in the last full trading session of the year. On the data front, the Spanish statistics office announced that the country's inflation rose to 2.8% in December.
At 9:02 am CET, the DAX lost 0.31%, with Siemens Energy down 2.03%. A minute later, the CAC 40 fell 0.38%, while Vivendi decreased by 0.91%. At the same time, the FTSE 100 declined 0.39%, as Halma dropped by 1.18%. At 9:04 am ET, the pan-European Euro Stoxx 50 edged down 0.40%, and Ferrari led losses, trading 0.89% lower.
At 8:58 am CET, the euro and the British pound were flat against the dollar, selling for $1.04237 and $1.25753 simultaneously.
