The unemployment rate in the Eurozone stood at 6.4% in December, unchanged from the November figure and down from 6.7% registered in December 2022, the European Commission's statistical office Eurostat shared in a report published on Thursday. In the entire European Union, the figure came in at 5.9%, also unchanged compared to the previous month and down from 6.1% observed in the same month a year prior.
According to estimates, 12.936 million people were unemployed in the EU in December, 10.909 million of whom were in the Eurozone. That figure decreased by 17,000 in the euro area month-on-month, and by 369,000 in the Eurozone and 299,000 in the EU year-on-year.
The youth unemployment rate in December was 14.7% in the EU and 14.4% in the euro area, respectively up and down from 14.5% registered in both regions in November.
