Former Green Party leader Caroline Lucas declared on Thursday that she would not seek re-election in the next United Kingdom's general election. In a letter addressed to her Brighton Pavilion constituents, Lucas described serving the community as the "privilege of her life."
As initially reported by the Argus newspaper in Brighton, Lucas expressed her concerns about the "ever more urgent" threats facing our planet. However, she admitted struggling to dedicate the necessary time to these accelerating crises due to her role as the Green Party's sole MP in the British parliament.
"I have therefore decided not to stand again as your MP at the next election," she announced. The next UK general election is scheduled to be held no later than January 2025.
