President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond Thomas Barkin stated on Tuesday, speaking to the Rotary Club of Charlotte, that recession "is possible."
"I am concerned whether the United States will have the financial capacity to fight future downturns," Barkin asserted. Nonetheless, he explained that he still sees a path to "get inflation under control" even though reaching a soft landing will be "really challenging."
He further underlined that fall in the inflation rate is expected, however, "not immediately, not suddenly and not predictably." Barkin said that future increases in key interest rates have already been signaled.
