United States Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman said on Monday that "it will likely be appropriate" to further raise interest rates and keep them at a restrictive level "for some time" as she feels that inflation remains too high and that she expects progress on reducing it to be "slow given the current level of monetary policy restraint."
Bowman added that high energy prices risk undoing some of the progress made so far and that she would be willing to support another rate hike if indicators show prices are falling too slowly or have stalled. However, she said that the "frequency and scope of recent data revisions" make it difficult to estimate how the US economy will evolve.
