Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago President Austan Goolsbee stated Thursday that if tariffs are avoided, the economy can return to a situation where it would be possible to lower interest rates.
Participating in the 2025 Mackinac Policy Conference, Goolsbee warned against the influence of politics on interest rates, adding that such interference could create the conditions for inflation to return.
He also noted the Fed has to do what the political apparatus "doesn't enjoy."
