New York federal prosecutors have initiated an investigation against American financial services giant Wells Fargo & Company based on suspicion that the company conducted sham interviews with non-white and female job applicants, The New York Times reported on Thursday.
The investigation centers around an ex-employee whistleblower Joe Bruno's testimony about how Wells Fargo managers interviewed members of racial minority and female social groups to boost their diversity image even though the job posts in question were actually already promised to other candidates.
According to The New York Times report, since Bruno's testimony was released, a number of present and former company employees came out with stories regarding being subject to or conducting sham interviews, or coming across documents that confirm the practice.
