President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen (pictured) celebrated on Wednesday the formal invitation of Sweden and Finland to join The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
"The accession of Finland and Sweden makes NATO larger, more European, and stronger," said Von der Leyen, while stressing how the military operation in Ukraine, instead of dividing the bloc, has strengthened the links between the EU and NATO.
"This is a good day for the transatlantic alliance, the European Union, Finland, and Sweden," said the president. Previously, NATO released an official statement in which the group recognized the request from both countries.
