More than 50 shops were destroyed in the wholesale market of the Bhagirat Palace area in North Delhi in a massive blaze that was finally brought under control on Friday, after over 12 hours, the city's fire department said.

Officials stated that 40 fire vehicles and over 200 personnel were deployed to douse the flames, with 22 engines still performing cooling operations. According to reports, the fire broke out in an electrical appliances shop and was perpetuated by a shortage of water and narrow lanes, but the cause still remains unknown.
