Fitch no longer expects US recession in 2024

EPA-EFE/JUSTIN LANE

Fitch Ratings Chief Economist Brian Coulton stated on Wednesday that a recession in the United States was unlikely to occur in 2024.

The view was expressed during a webinar in which he also said he expects the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates three times this year. Besides, Coulton also expects high US deficits to continue.

This announcement comes after Fitch downgraded the US government's top credit rating from AAA to AA+ last year. The downgrade was attributed to concerns about fiscal deterioration and ongoing problems in debt ceiling negotiations.
