Foreign investors maintained steady holdings of US Treasuries in January, with total holdings at $8.526 trillion, unchanged from December but up 7.2% from a year earlier, Treasury Department data showed Wednesday.
Japan remained the largest non-US holder, increasing its Treasury holdings to $1.079 trillion, while China's holdings increased to $760.8 billion from December's 15-year low.
Total net foreign acquisitions of US long- and short-term securities posted a $48.8 billion outflow, reversing December's $103.2 billion inflow.
