An extension of the lockdown in France amid the coronavirus pandemic will "most likely be necessary," French Public Health Agency Director General Genevieve Chene asserted on Thursday.
"If we play the game of all barriers, distance and containment measures, there is a high probability that we may be in a different situation than that of Italy. What we should start to observe is a significant slowdown in 2 to 4 weeks," Chene told Franceinfo.
The death toll from the infection climbed by 89 on a daily basis to 264 nationwide, while over 9,000 people were tested positive for COVID-19, French health officials unveiled on Wednesday. On Monday, France limited contact and travel to the only-essential level for at least 15 days in an attempt to curb the spreading of coronavirus.
