French President Emmanuel Macron announced Monday that his country and Saudi Arabia will co-host a conference in the coming months to push forward a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The announcement came during a conference in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Macron reiterated that Hamas must be excluded from Gaza's governance and cease to pose a threat to Israel. He expressed strong opposition to any population displacement or annexation in Gaza and the West Bank, calling such actions violations of international law.
The two leaders condemned renewed Israeli strikes on Gaza and urged an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages. Macron praised Egypt's efforts toward mediation and supported the Arab League's reconstruction plan for Gaza, which envisions new governance under the Palestinian Authority.
