French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot told Franceinfo in an interview on Tuesday that the European Union's 16th sanctions package against Russia is mostly focusing on the latter's energy sector.

The latest package is expected to be announced next Monday and aims to "force [Russian President] Vladimir Putin to sit down at the negotiating table," Barrot stated.

He went on to say that peace can only be achieved "through pressure," and for that reason, the bloc will continue to "raise the cost of the war" for Moscow.
