French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou said on Thursday that United States President Donald Trump's administration is causing "a contagion of worries" worldwide with its unpredictable tariff policies.
"Recovering our production and our sovereignty is the most important issue we have to resolve" to protect Europe's security, Bayrou stated at an event in Paris.
Last week, Trump announced sweeping reciprocal tariffs on a wide range of countries and 25% duties on all non-US-made cars. However, on Wednesday, he announced a 90-day pause on the reciprocal tariffs for all countries that have not imposed retaliatory levies on US imports, while the auto tariffs remained in force.
