French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Monday that his country is currently facing an inflation peak, estimating that inflation would decline to around 5% by the end of the year.
However, Le Maire warned that consumer prices would continue to grow in the upcoming weeks, before starting to ease over the course of 2023. The minister also confirmed in an interview with BFM TV a 3.5% increase in social welfare payments due to inflation.
France's inflation soared to 5.8% in May, according to a final report published by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) earlier this month.
