French military head, Chief of the Defense Staff Thierry Burkhard, said on Friday that he does not think the United States will halt defense cooperation with Europe because "it is not in their interest." However, he stressed the need for Europe to increase its defense capabilities.

Burkhard also said Russia is a "stakeholder in all threats" to European security and that it represents a "lasting, close and most significant threat" in itself. He claimed Moscow sees France as its main adversary in Europe and has made it "one of its priority targets." He said Russia is waging a hybrid war in Europe, including spreading misinformation, orchestrating cyberattacks and launching specialized satellites that signal its "desire for militarization in space."
