The Republican Party won two new seats in the House of Representatives in the United States midterm elections, according to projections. Both flips happened in New York, where the GOP has seen a surge in popularity.
In the 17th District, Republican Mike Lawler beat Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney and took the seat over from Democrat Mondaire Jones. The 4th District saw GOP's Anthony D’Esposito win over Democrat Laura Gillen, after Democrat Kathleen Rice decided to retire from the position.
