Israel's National Unity party leader Benny Gantz stated on Thursday that the Iranian regime "are experts at stalling." "The State of Israel must, and can, remove the prospect of Iranian nuclear capabilities,” he underlined in a post on X, adding that "it is time to change the Middle East."
His comments come after the New York Times reported that Israel was planning to attack Iran as soon as May, but gave up on the idea due to the United States wanting to have negotiations with Tehran about a potential nuclear deal.
Sources told the media outlet that Israel's idea behind the May strike was to hinder Tehran's ability to "develop a nuclear weapon by a year or more." The sources added that the US would have to get involved to ensure the success of the operation, as well as protect Israel after the move. For the time being, Washington has chosen the diplomatic path.
