Houthis claim hitting US merchant ship

Yemen's Houthi rebel group claimed Wednesday that they used naval missiles to "directly" strike a merchant ship "KOI" from the United States on its way towards "ports of occupied Palestine."

Spokesperson of the Yemeni Armed Forces Yahya Sare'e said in X that this strike came hours after Houthi naval forces "targeted the American destroyer (USS Greeley) with several naval missiles in the Red Sea, and the hit was direct and accurate." He reiterated that all ships from the United Kingdom and the United States navigating on the Red and Arabian Seas "are legitimate targets" for the militia in continuation of their support to civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Earlier, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said it destroyed a second anti-ship missile that the Houthis were intended to use against US aircraft.
