Rheinmetall AG revealed on Tuesday in a statement that it would be equipping the German Navy with simulation-based training systems called Distributed Naval Training Architecture / Verteilte Trainingsarchitektur der Marine (VTAM).
According to the company, the order, valued at a mid-double digit million euro sum, was signed back in December of last year. The project, which commenced at the beginning of 2025, will last four years with the training simulators to be used at six German Naval bases.
"VTAM is the first simulation of its kind to be introduced into the German Navy, simulating the interaction between the external and internal combat schemes of a warship (weapons deployment and damage control). This will create a wide range of training and exercise options in the future, enabling crews of vessels, boats and aviation units to be trained together in a virtual scenario," Rheinmetall detailed.
