Industrial production in the German manufacturing sector declined 2.4% on a monthly basis in December to its lowest level since May 2020, the country's Federal Statistical Office Destatis said in a provisional report released on Friday.
The figure dropped 3.1% compared to the corresponding month last year. The overall result was mainly influenced by machine maintenance and assembly, which declined by 10.5%, followed by a decline of 10.0% in the automotive industry.
In December 2024, industry production, excluding energy and construction, decreased 3.3% from the previous month. The output of consumer goods rose by 0.9%, and the output of capital goods fell by 4.7%.
