Annual inflation in Germany clocked in at 2.6% in December, the preliminary report published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) showed on Monday. The inflation rate expanded more than analysts expected.
Month-over-month, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.4% compared to the November figure. The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices went up by 2.9% compared to the same timeframe a year prior and added 0.7% on a monthly basis.
The data showed that food prices in December 2024 were 2.0% higher than in the same month a year earlier, while energy prices decreased 1.7% year-over-year.
