German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier made an unexpected visit to Kiev on Tuesday, the first since Russia's invasion on Ukraine started on February 24.

"My message to the people of Ukraine is: You can rely on Germany," the presidential office cited Steinmeier as stressing ahead of the visit, during which he is expected to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.

Germany previously increased its expectations for military spending to €2 billion, with much of it dedicated to boosting Ukraine's defenses against Russia by supplying military weapons and equipment. The complete list of Berlin's military aid to Ukraine can be found on the federal government's website.
