The German trade surplus stood at €16 billion in January, declining from €20.7 billion recorded in December and from €25.3 billion in January 2024, and coming in below expectations, the country's Federal Statistical Office Destatis revealed in its report on Monday.
The country's calendar and seasonally adjusted goods exports reached €129.2 billion, dropping by 2.5% on a monthly basis and by 0.1% on an annual basis. Imports amounted to €113.1 billion, climbing by 1.2% month-on-month and by 8.7% year-on-year.
Meanwhile, Germany's exports to other countries of the European Union fell by 4.2% in January compared to the previous month to stand at €69.8 billion, while imports dipped by 1.1% to €57 billion. The country's exports to the non-EU countries were down by 0.4% compared to December to reach €59.4 billion, while imports were 3.7% higher and stood at €56.1 billion.
