The unemployment rate in Germany ran at 5.7% in April unchanged from the previous month, Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit (BA), the country's Federal Employment Agency, reported on Friday.
The number of unemployed German residents, on a monthly basis, fell by 8,000 to 2,586,000. Year over year, the number of unemployed people in the country rose by 276,000. On a seasonally adjusted basis, unemployment increased by 24,000 compared to the previous month. "The spring revival on the labor market will remain weak in April. One of the reasons for this is the sluggish economy. Overall, however, the job market is in stable condition," Andrea Nahles, Chairwoman of the Board of the Federal Employment Agency (BA), commented.
Underemployment, which takes into account people in relieving labor market policies and short-term incapacity for work, on a seasonally adjusted basis, grew by 18,000 in April compared to March, to stand at 3,445,000. This is 389,000 more underemployed individuals year over year.
