Alternative for Germany (AfD) leader Alice Weidel said on Thursday that former Chancellor Angela Merkel destroyed Germany with her energy politics.

"In my point of view, Angela Merkel ruined basically our country," Weidel noted during an interview with Elon Musk streamed on his social network X. "So the aim of Angela Merkel was to enforce just solar and wind energy. You don't need to be very smart to realize that you cannot run an industrial country with just wind and solar," she added.

Meanwhile, Musk said that he is a fan of wind and solar energy, but he emphasized that he thinks Germany needs the "underrated" use of nuclear energy. "The right move is to increase substantially the amount of nuclear power in Germany," he insisted.
