The German government announced on Wednesday that it will temporarily increase checks on the borders with Poland and the Czech Republic to fight illegal immigration and human trafficking as the authorities have recently noted an increase in the number of asylum seekers. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said the measure will be implemented in agreement with Polish and Czech authorities.
Faeser explained that the checks will be "flexible and mobile" and will respond to the situation in the field. She said they will be put into place this week and that they will strive for minimum impact on the people and the economy.
