German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced on Monday that Germany will send 4,000 troops to Lithuania to reinforce one of NATO's easternmost allies. "Germany is ready to permanently station a robust brigade in Lithuania," he said.

Pistorius added that Lithuania is tasked with providing the necessary infrastructure and training facilities for the German personnel. Germany is also providing protection for the NATO summit in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in July.
