Germany: Gas shortage still avoidable

The head of Germany's gas regulator Bundesnetzagentur Klaus Mueller stated on Wednesday that a gas shortage is avoidable, even though the gas flows through Nord Stream 1 from Russia to Germany halved at 8 am CET earlier today.

Mueller emphasized that it is essential for industries and consumers to reduce gas usage.

"The crucial thing is to save gas. I would like to hear fewer complaints but reports [from industries saying] we as a sector are contributing to this," he concluded.

The statement comes a day after the European Union countries agreed to cut gas demand by 15% the following winter.
