United States District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Lewis Liman found on Monday President-elect Donald Trump's former lawyer Rudy Giuliani to be in civil contempt of court in the case linked to his participation in Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia.
The judge ruled that the ex-New York Mayor repeatedly failed to respond to requests to hand over his assets as part of the case in which Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss accused him of defamation. The two were granted a compensation sum of $148 million.
Freeman and Moss sued Giuliani for defamation after he claimed they tried to fraud votes in the 2020 presidential election.
