The price of gold jumped to a new record high after United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing 25% tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum into the US, boosting demand for safe-haven assets.
Trump ruled out any chance of exemptions or exceptions and warned the tariffs may go higher.
Gold climbed by 1.06% to sell for $2,938.53 per ounce at 9:03 pm ET. Silver rose by 0.34% to go for $32.17 per ounce at 9:05 pm ET. Platinum increased by 0.27%, selling for $991 per ounce at 9:06 pm ET, and palladium was up by 0.41% to sell for $977.25 at 9:07 pm ET.
