Google works on AR headset – report

Google has recently begun to work on augmented reality (AR) headset, codenamed Project Iris, which it hopes to commercialize in 2024, sources familiar with the project revealed to The Verge on Thursday.

Google's new device would be like the headsets from Meta, Apple, and Microsoft. However, according to the information provided, the headset would be more immersive than the existing ones from Snap and Magic Leap. Early prototypes developed in San Francisco resemble ski goggles and do not need a tethered connection to an external power source.

The hardware is powered by a custom processor from Google, like its most recent Google Pixel smartphone, and will run on Android. Early job listings suggest that they are working on a unique operating system.
