International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Grossi on Saturday revealed that the Iranian government revoked the license of several IAEA inspectors responsible for monitoring uranium enrichment facilities in the country.
Grossi expressed his concern over this move, stating that it would significantly reduce the agency's capacity to conduct inspections in Iran. He emphasized that this decision by Tehran is unprecedented and could hinder the ability to verify the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program.
"This profoundly regrettable decision by Iran is another step in the wrong direction and constitutes an unnecessary blow to an already strained relationship between the IAEA and Iran in the implementation of the NPT Safeguards Agreement," Grossi said in condemnation of the move.
