UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly denounced the violence in Gaza on Monday, referring to the latest attacks on civilians as "atrocious and inhumane acts." Speaking at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, he described how people seeking UN aid over the weekend were met with mass shootings and killings.
Guterres reiterated the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and expanded humanitarian access. He also stressed that a sustainable peace in the Middle East requires dialogue and a two-state solution, while highlighting ongoing crises in Sudan, Ukraine, Myanmar, and other conflict zones. According to him, development and peace must go hand in hand, and both are collapsing across many regions.
