United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed "deep concern" on Friday after the United States decided to cut aid to UN agencies and humanitarian and development non-governmental organizations. He warned the decision will impact a wide range of critical programmes, with "especially devastating" consequences to vulnerable people.
"Going through with these cuts will make the world less healthy, less safe and less prosperous. The reduction of America’s humanitarian role and influence will run counter to American interests globally," Guterres told reporters.
