Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto will not visit the United States in the next months, the White House confirmed on Sunday. Plans for Nieto to make his first visit to Washington in March were put on hold as he and US President Donald Trump agreed in a phone call that "now is not the right time," AP reported citing a White House official.

According to a report by the Washington Post, the two presidents spoke on Tuesday for about 50 minutes, devoting a large proportion of time to the potential construction of a wall on the border between their countries. Nieto asked that Trump "agree to publicly affirm Mexico’s position" that it will not pay for the wall, a stance Mexico has held ever since Trump announced it as one of his top campaign promises in 2016.
