Hamas open to five-year truce, hostage release deal

Hamas is open to a one-time release of all remaining hostages and a five-year halt to hostilities in Gaza, an official told AFP on Saturday. Speaking anonymously, the representative confirmed the group's readiness ahead of talks with mediators in Cairo, expected to take place this afternoon.

On April 17, Hamas rejected an Israeli offer for a 45-day ceasefire tied to the release of 10 hostages, insisting that any deal must end the war completely. The group continues to demand a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, a comprehensive prisoner exchange, and immediate, sufficient humanitarian aid to the territory.
