The spokesman for Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Obeida, said on Saturday that the fate of US-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander is still unknown after the group lost contact with the unit that held him following an Israeli strike in the Gaza Strip earlier in the week.
"We managed to retrieve the body of a martyr who was tasked with securing the prisoner Edan Alexander, but the fate of the prisoner and the rest of the captors remains unknown," the group said in a statement.
Obeida claimed that the militant group is trying to protect all hostages captured in Gaza, "their lives are in danger due to the criminal bombing operations carried out by the enemy army."
