Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem told AFP on Thursday that a UN report accusing Israel of "genocidal acts" in Gaza confirms Israel's instruction of "genocide and humanitarian violations" during the war. He stated that the atrocities committed by Israel are "too horrific to be fully captured" in the report, stressing the urgent need to prosecute Israeli leaders at the International Criminal Court.
Among others, the UN Commission of Inquiry revealed that Israel had "intentionally attacked and destroyed" Gaza's main fertility center, the Basma IVF clinic, while blocking aid, including medications for safe pregnancies and neonatal care. The report also detailed Israel's systematic use of sexual, reproductive, and gender-based violence since October 7, 2023.
It condemned Israel's disproportionate violence against women and children, leading to severe harm to Palestinians through reproductive violence and the collapse of Gaza's healthcare system. The Commission described these actions as "more than a human can bear."
