A Hamas delegation has travelled to Cairo to explore fresh proposals for a possible ceasefire with Israel, a senior official told AFP on Tuesday. The visit follows the group's recent rejection of an Israeli offer.
Egyptian and Qatari mediators are reportedly pushing for a multi-year truce that would end the conflict, see a full Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza, and secure the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners. An Israeli delegation had already arrived in Cairo on Sunday and met with Egyptian officials the following day, according to Qatari outlet Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
Meanwhile, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stated that securing the return of hostages is not Israel's top priority.
