United States Vice President Kamala Harris announced on Saturday that she accepted a debate on CNN on October 23. In a post on X, Harris said she hopes her Republican rival, former President Donald Trump will join her. Trump previously ruled out any further debates after the one hosted by ABC on September 10.
The Harris campaign argued voters "deserve another opportunity" to see Harris and Trump debate before the election. "It would be unprecedented in modern history for there just to be one presidential debate," campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon said. "Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate. It is the same format and setup as the CNN debate he attended and said he won in June, when he praised CNN moderators, rules, and ratings," she added, referring to the debate Trump had with the then-Democratic candidate, President Joe Biden.
