Harvard University filed a lawsuit Monday against the administration of United States President Donald Trump, accusing it of overstepping legal bounds by freezing $2.2 billion in research funding.
In a letter, Harvard President Alan Garber said the federal campaign aims to exert "unprecedented and improper control" over academic institutions. Garber said the government's actions risk derailing medical and scientific projects, from cancer research to infectious disease tracking. "We stand for the values that have made American higher education a beacon for the world," he wrote, aligning the campaign with an "overreach."
Officials have also threatened to revoke the school's tax-exempt status.
