United Kingdom Defence Secretary John Healey urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept the 30-day Ukraine ceasefire to which Kiev already agreed and thus "prove" he is ready to talk, as he has claimed.

Speaking at a press conference following a meeting of defense ministers of the five largest NATO spenders from Europe, Healey stressed that the "pressure is now on Putin" to "start negotiations" and "end the war."

The UK defense chief also claimed that the "only way" peace and stability can be achieved is "through strengthening NATO" and "standing with Ukraine." He noted that Britain will spend £4.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine this year.
