6 dead, 53 wounded in explosion in Istanbul

Six people were killed and 53 injured on Sunday after a bomb exploded on the popular pedestrian Istiklal Avenue in Istanbul.

The country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed the perpetrators of the "heinous attack" will be punished.

"Based on initial information from the governor, the explosion could be a suspected act of terrorism," he said.
