United States House Speaker Mike Johnson delayed a vote on the Senate's budget blueprint, aimed at advancing President Donald Trump's domestic agenda, as it became clear that too many Republicans would vote against it.
Johnson opted to delay the vote despite voicing his optimism earlier about gathering enough support, after many House Republicans said that they opposed or remained undecided on the Senate budget resolution, mostly due to it mandating only $4 billion in spending cuts, against the $1.5 trillion in cuts called for by the version passed by the House.
Johnson said the vote would now take place on Thursday, instead. "This has been a very constructive process," Johnson said. "We're working through — we want all members to be not just comfortable with, but happy about the final product," he was quoted as having said by NBC News.
