House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (pictured) invited on Friday Senior Counsel to New York County District Attorney's Office Matthew Colangelo to testify about Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's "unprecedented prosecutorial conduct" related to former United States President Donald Trump.
The panel said in a letter to Colangelo that it wants him to appear for a transcribed interview "as soon as possible" due to news reports that said Bragg hired him in December 2022 to "jump start" his office's investigation of Trump, reportedly because of his earlier partaking in multiple investigations into the ex-president. The committee also asked Colangelo to provide it with relevant documents.
The move comes after Bragg charged Trump with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree "in order to conceal damaging information and unlawful activity from American voters before and after the 2016 election." Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges and called Bragg a "criminal" who "should be prosecuted."
