Virus cases in Italy rise by record 189,109 in one day

Italian health officials reported on Wednesday that record-high 189,109 cases have been detected in the previous 24 hours, taking the total number of coronavirus infections to 6,756,035.

Over the same time span, the COVID-19 death toll in the country rose by 231 to 138,276.

A total of 5,196,642 patients have been cured of the disease since the beginning of the pandemic, data also showed.
